16th Mountaineer Open

The 16th Mountaineer Open chess tournament will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Rounds:10-1-4-7
Half-Point Byes:Maximum one per player. Half-point bye requests for round 4 must be made before the start of round 3.
Entry Fee:$35 on-site / $25 postmarked by Oct. 18, 2014
Prizes:Two sections, $$500 b/28 (proportional payout common to both sections)
Open: $120-80 U2000 $60
Reserve: U1800 $90-60 U1600 $50 U1300 $40
In the event of six or less players registering for either section, these will be combined (preserving overall prize fund).

22nd Annual Parkersburg Homecoming Chess Tournament

The 22nd Annual Parkersburg Homecoming Chess Tournament was held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Parkersburg Municipal Building at 2nd & Market Streets in Parkersburg, WV. Fifteen players competed in the tournament.

The position of Parkersurg Homecoming Champion went to David Hines of Ridgely, WV. The position of second place in the rated section was tied between Markle Butcher of Buckhannon, WV and Ack Morgan III of Sistersville, WV. Brian Adams of Gallipolis Ferry, WV took home the U1300 class prize. Special congratulations also go out to Jordan Whistler of Marietta, OH, who gained 125 rating points in this event.

Congratulations to the prize winners, and thanks to everyone who turned out to make this a great tournament! We hope to see you all next year! Pictures from the event will soon be uploaded to the Mid-Ohio Valley Chess Club's photo gallery, so keep an eye on this page for updatees.

New Meeting Times

The Vienna Public Library has changed their meeting room policy, so effective immediately, the club will meet there from 5 to 8 p.m. instead of the previous 6 to 9 p.m. The dates have not changed--they are still the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month.

March 12 Meeting Location Change

Due to a scheduling conflict, the next meeting of the chess club on March 12th will be held at the Belpre Public Library, ​2012 Washington Boulevard Belpre, OH from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Meetings at the Vienna Public Library will resume on March 26.
